You can make your own simple cleaning solution for general cleaning of most of your fine or even your everyday casual jewelry!
½ teaspoon dishwashing liquid
½ cup warm water
Mix ½ teaspoon mild dishwashing liquid with ½ cup of warm water in a small bowl or other container. You may use warm tap water or if you prefer to use distilled water you may heat the water in your microwave for about 1 minute (depending upon the power level of your microwave) before you mix in the dishwashing liquid. Stir well (you may want to work up the suds in the mixture). Soak your jewelry briefly (3-5 minutes should work) in the cleaning mixture. Brush carefully with a soft bristle brush (a soft or medium toothbrush works well). Rinse the jewelry completely and dry it with a soft, clean cloth or chamois. Set your jewelry out on a soft cloth to air dry completely.
Please note: Some jewelry cleaner recipes may include an equal amount of ammonia, rubbing alcohol, or a variety of commercially available cleaners such as glass or surface cleaners. Please consider that these harsher chemicals or the cleaners may contain harsh chemicals which could be harmful to your fine or casual jewelry. If you decide to use these chemicals when mixing your cleaner you may be jeopardizing the quality of you jewelry. Research indicates that the harsh chemical can damage some softer gemstones, some metal combinations used in the jewelry or the setting fixtures, or even the glues used in less expensive costume or casual jewelry. Remember, there is no substitute for regular cleaning, proper storage, and simple care for your Gemstone Jewelry.
